Legal Time Limit to post credit card credits?

I was charged a deposit on a furnace purchase 9/24/08 and subsequently the entire purchase amount also. I notified the company about the overcharge 3 weeks ago and then reminded them again 10 days ago. It is now 10/29/08 and no credit appears on my recent history online. How long have they got? It's costing me finance charges.
