Does heavy metal influence people to act a certain way?

I am aenlisted in the US army currently deployed to Iraq and am constantly ridiculed for my taste in music. Personally I prefer death metal (lamb of god cannibal corpse and such) I get confronted often for seeming manic depressive and reclusive.Most soldiers out here in my unit anyways tend to listen to rap and country. Different strokes for different folks as I see it. But, I get told often that I am the way I am because the music influences me to feel a certain way. I however disagree I have been listening to metal music as long as I can remember and don't feel as if under some spell or puppet of any sort. It's just music and I feel most that don't listen to one type can't understand another completely. but, what do you think
